Did NFL Super Bowl Collection – Oakland Raiders suck?

Customer Reviews:

Silver & Black Sundays4
Since many NFL fans are interested only in their favorite team and their victories, Warner Video has provided single volume, 2-disc sets for the 49ers, Cowboys, Steelers, Packers, Redskins and the Raiders. Each of these teams have won, at least, 3 Super Bowl titles. So for the fans of these teams, they can have the video highlights of the NFL year that these teams played for their title and the review of the Super Bowl in which they were victorious. However, all the highlights and special features were taken from the Warner’s Super Bowl I-XXX Collection. The Super Bowl highlights are the same footage NFL fans have seen on ESPN and previously produced volumes. Consequently, there is no new video footage only a difference in focus and packaging.

Raiders fans who have already purchased the volume entitled the Super Bowl XI-XX Collection need not purchase this particular product, since it contains the same footage, highlights and “Special Features” for Super Bowls XI, XV & XVIII in that one volume. What’s disappointing about the Collection series and the Super Bowl Champions sets are that the review of the season does not focus on the team season with a game by game review, but with an overall view of that NFL year. In the case of the Raiders, this means this set contains highlights of the 1976, 1980 and 1983 NFL year and not each Raiders game of that year. Presumably, this is done to set a context in which the Raiders had emerged into prominence. Each NFL Year in review is approximately 23 minutes long and so is each Super Bowl review. The “Special Features” section contains video features on the Raider Mystique, Ken Stabler, Jim Plunkett, Howie Long & Marcus Allen. Since each one of these features are only about 5 minutes in duration, it keeps the serious Raiders fan wanting more. Is this the intent by Warner Video? What makes this set a must for Raiders fans is that it focuses on the Raiders victories. Fans who need to keep their Raiders collection complete will find this product a delight. Recommended!

Mainly NFL seasons in review during the Oakland wins3
This 2 DVD set was a real disappointment. The Raiders, a team that I dearly love, may have had a few more seconds of coverage than any of the other teams that played football during the year of the Oakland Raider Super Bowl wins. To make it short and to the point, this DVD set is not for the Oakland Raider fan.

This will make any Raiders fan VERY happy!5
I bought this for my 16 year old brother and he is obsessed with the Raiders. It is an excellent idea for your favorite Raider fan!

Why you you should never watch Madagascar Widescreen Edition!

Why you you should never watch Madagascar Widescreen Edition!

Laugh Out Loud Funny5
I have to admit I was underwhelmed by the ads for “Madagascar”, it just didn’t look that good. But my kids were anxious to see it so I dragged myself into the theater on Saturday ready to see another kiddie movie along the lines of “Shark Tale” or “Home on the Range”. I did not expect to enjoy the movie as much as my seven year old….if not more. “Madagascar” is not only a great animated film and packs as many laughs into it’s hour and half as either “Shrek” movie did, “Madagascar” is just a great comedy. There were several times in the movie that were just laugh out loud funny, the scene with the Penguins in Antarctica was worth the price of admission for me! There are plenty of jokes aimed at an older audience, like the reference to “The Twilight Zone” episode “How to Serve Man”. The story is great and the characters are really fun. The visuals are stunning and the animation is top-notch. Add all that together with a great soundtrack, and I think “Madagascar” is a great way to kick off the summer movie season. This one ranks right up there with “The Incredibles” and “Shrek”.

Great for the family…4
Madagascar is a cute and funny movie. Parents and kids were laughing through most of the movie. (there was an little while where the story gets boring.) But, I love the penguins and the fact that they are always so sneaky; they really steal the show from the main characters. If you have kids this is a definite must see, we had kids laughing the whole time and most loved the bright colors, music and especially dancing. You saw a lot of little kids dancing in their chairs. People without kids or older kids will also enjoy the movie as it has a lot of jokes for adults to keep us entertained and laughing; the bright colors are also great for us as well as the dancing and music. I felt this cartoon lived up to its previews and the way it was perceived. My only hope is if they do a 2nd one that they include more of those sneaky penguins.

Amusing Fun for Young and Old4
Recent animated efforts have tried to create 3-D characters and environments, but the filmmakers have wisely chosen another course for “Madagascar”. Adopting a stylized form of animation, the film looks like a living picture book. Everything is cartoonier than we are used to. Alex, Marty and Melman are still rendered in 3-D, but they are not lifelike and appear to be adapted from a children’s book, actually adding to the humor. These characters look like stuffed animals and its funny to watch little kids carrying a small toy of Alex home after their visit to the zoo. They seem more believable as zoo animals and they are certainly cute as the dickens.

In all animated films today, a certain level of irreverence, of zaniness is expected. “Madagascar” doesn’t reach the heights of the “Shrek” films, but it comes darn close. Everything from Tom Wolfe to “The Twilight Zone”, “American Beauty” to “The Planet of the Apes” is parodied in the film. Most of the kids won’t get these jokes and the filmmakers know that. They are included for the adults, to keep them interested in the story. The mark of a great animated film is if both adults and children enjoy the experience. For instance, “The Incredibles” was a fantastic blend of story, action, character and humor which will continue to delight people of all ages. “Madagascar” has a very funny story, great characters, and a lot of humor. On a couple of occasions, the story was a little slow, but I think all of the other areas more than compensate for any shortcomings. And adults will laugh at many of the jokes, probably more so than the kids in the audience.

Ben Stiller and Chris Rock are very good. David Schwimmer seems to be injecting a lot of Ross from “Friends” into the role of Melman, not very original but it works. The real standouts are Tom McGrath and Sacha Baron Cohen.

There are a couple of brilliant additions to the film, which help it rise above. Marty’s ideas of visiting the wild are originally fed by Skipper the Penguin (Tom McGrath). Skipper and his sidekicks, two other penguins, are determined to break out of the zoo and return to Antarctica. They skulk around corners like CIA operatives, act in clandestine ways, and manage to accomplish most of their goals. The penguins are a brilliant addition to the story and really liven up the proceedings. I laughed out loud during most of their appearances. For a while, their story takes them in a different direction from the rest of the gang and we lose track of them. Because they are so funny, you long for their return.

When the animals land in Madagascar, they meet King Julian the lemur (Sacha Baron Cohen, TV’s “Ali G”) and Maurice, his right hand lemur (Cedric the Entertainer) and their entire kingdom of lemurs. Cohen seemed to be channeling the spirit of Peter Sellers, because his voice was an uncanny reproduction of some of Seller’s characters. He is very funny as the King, always working on an angle as he tries to figure things out. The Lemurs add a level of frenetic activity and zaniness to the film, ratcheting the humor up a few notches.

The least interesting voice actor is Jada Pinkett Smith. She simply doesn’t add anything to the character. IMDb.com lists a handful of other people who were considered for the role and I have to say that I don’t think any of them would have made a significant contribution either. A comedian would have been a nice touch. Instead, Gloria seems to be the lone voice of reason among the group, dragging everything down.

“Madagascar” is a really good, very funny film suitable for the entire family. But it is also a great choice if you are with a date or simply alone and want to watch a funny film. You’ll enjoy it.

great stuff5
We have used this product for 2 years. We ride motorcycles ALOT and this is the only product I have found that I can put on once in the morning before we leave and I never have to worry. It’s very thick and hard to put on but once it’s on it’s great. I have tired the face and the sport and they work well also. But for my fair skin I need the one with more zinc oxide. I highly recommend this product if you burn easily!

Great product!5
My wife and I utilized this product while on our honeymoon in the Caribbean and it worked as advertised. She has extremely sensitive skin to most products in general and must take precautions for sun exposure due to her skin type. After spending a few hours snorkeling the product needed to be reapplied but that is to be expected in the warm salt water; the product does not indicate it is water proof but it is one of the best we have tried at dealing with water. It goes on goopy and white but is easily absorbed and massaged into the skin. We suffered no burns or reactions. Overall an impressive product with innovative packaging. HIghly recommended.

Thick gloppy gooey stuff but it works.4
I used this sunscreen while building a retaining wall in front of my house back in July. A little of this stuff sure goes a long way. However, once I put it on my arms and face and neck, places exposed to the sun while I was working, I didn’t worry about sunburn at all, and I didn’t get burned.

The Diary of Anne Frank for Xbox 360, wii, PSP, PS3, iPod, iPad, iPhone, and Blu Ray

July 29th, 2010 by maddison8884606

The Diary of Anne Frank

The Diary of Anne Frank for Xbox 360, wii, PSP, PS3, iPod, iPad, iPhone, and Blu Ray

The new Diary of Anne Frank production is the first true and authentic account of life in hiding under Nazi terror during World War II from the unique perspective of a teenage Jewish girl. The Diary of Anne Frank is a modern, timeless classic of literature and a extraordinary social document that has endured the world over. The story is both an important piece of recent history and universal family tale that is understood worldwide.  Full of tension but at times funny and ultimately tragic, Anne Frank’s diary manages to create a truthful and timeless picture of domestic life in all its pettiness and normality while never letting us forget the extraordinary threat of death that await the characters if discovered. The BBC worked directly with the Anne Frank-Fonds estate to ensure complete authenticity for the film.

Dramatizations of her diary are far and few between as the Anne Frank Fonds (estate) tends not to grant the rights to adapt her memoirs, so this drama series is a very rare event. The detailed reconstructions of the house, together with the strong award winning performances from the cast, combine to create a landmark piece of drama.

Customer Reviews:

A compelling , altogether human adaptation of Anne Frank’s diary5
This latest adaptation of “The Diary of Anne Frank” is by the BBC (released in 2008, total running time is 150 mins). The screenplay is by Deborah Moggach, and is directed by Jon Jones. This adaptation stars Ellie Kendrick as Anna Frank, a feisty 13-year-old Jewish girl who finds her world turned upside down when the Nazis invade Holland in 1942. When her older sister, 16-year-old Margot (Felicity Jones) receives a summons from the Nazis to report for deportation, the Frank family, including father Otto (Iain Glen) and mother Edith (Tamsin Grieg) go into hiding in a Secret Annex above Otto’s office. They are helped by a group of loyal Gentile friends, namely Miep Gies (Kate Ashfield), Mr Kleiman (Roger Frost), Mr Kugler (Tim Dantay), and Bep Voskuijl (Mariah Gale). The Franks are later joined by the Van Daans, comprising father Hermann (Ron Cook), mother Petronella (Lesley Sharp), and son Peter (Geoff Breton), and soon after by dentist Albert Dussell (Nicholas Farrell).

Living under such constraints puts a lot of stress on the occupants of the Secret Annex, and the story unfolds through Anne’s observations (told partly through voiceovers) as the real Anne Frank had made these observations about her life in hiding in her beloved diary. Anne’s chafing under the restrictions of living in hiding is credibly portrayed here(especially the conflicts with Mrs Van Daan and Dussell), as is her adolescent angst which comes across most clearly in her tense relationship with her mother, whom Anne felt did not truly understand her, in contrast to her beloved Pim/Dad whom Anne was very close to. The budding romance between Anne and Peter Van Daan is also explored with a great degree of sensitivity, and it is amazing to see these adolescents manage to connect on an intimate level, despite the harrowing circumstances they find themselves in. Anne’s heartfelt conversation with her father is one of the most poignant scenes here and Anne’s reflections on her parent’s marriage is very insightful, especially from one so young. Ellie Kendrick delivers a finely nuanced performance as the adolescent Anne who harbors so many desires and ambitions, hopes for an unfettered and normal life, and the yearnings of a teenage girl. Her intimate observations regarding her body’s cycle and all that it signifies are altogether poignant and heartrending to watch.

The sense of fear and danger is palpable from the first moments, and pervades the show. But there are also light-hearted moments to offset the bleak atmosphere, as when Mrs Van Daan refuses to eat cabbage because it gives her gas, and the comical teeth-pulling scene involving a certain fuss-pot and the dentist. But, knowing their final fate (as anyone who is familiar with Anne Frank’s story will know) makes this a heartrending watch indeed. This series ends with Anne, her family, the Van Daans and Dussell being led away by the authorities after their hiding place was discovered (they were betrayed, and the identity of the person/s who betrayed them has never been confirmed till today, though there are many books written on the subject and speculations on the identity of the person/s concerned). The fates of all eight Jews in hiding is also revealed.

I would highly recommend this latest adaptation of “The Diary of Anne Frank” to anyone who has an interest in the Holocaust, who has read and loved Anne Frank’s “Diary of a Young Girl”, and also to teachers of History, may we never forget. There is also a bonus feature which is an interview with Anne Frank’s cousin, Buddy Elias.

Note:
I have watched two previous screen adaptations of “The Diary of Anne Frank”. The 1959 B&W movie (total running time:180 mins) starring Millie Perkins as Anne Frank and Joseph Schildkraut as Anne’s father, Otto. Though this movie was well-acted and credibly portrayed the fears and frustrations of people in hiding, I felt the movie was wanting in terms of being faithful to the original source, i.e. Anne’s diary. This movie is not an altogether historically accurate representation of actual events. The Franks had gone into hiding before the Van Daans, but this is portrayed otherwise in the movie. Peter Van Daan [Van Pels] was extremely shy in real life, but his demeanor is portrayed differently here, and his romance with Anne is overly exaggerated in typical Hollywood style. This movie ends with the capture of the Franks’ and their friends in hiding.

The second version I watched was “Anne Frank – The Whole Story” (Walt Disney Studio Release 2001 -total running time 189 mins) and is a well-acted and beautifully filmed movie based on Melissa Muller’s biography of Anne Frank. The movie was beautifully filmed with great attention to period details and the excellent casting choices made this an engaging viewing experience. Ben Kingsley played the role of Otto Frank and Hannah Taylor-Gordon plays Anne Frank. Her resemblance to the real-life Anne is quite uncanny. Her portrayal of Anne is simply amazing – strong-willed, impetuous, candid, ambitious, and yet, underlying all that fierceness of spirit is a young girl on the brink of womanhood who yearns to be thought of as a woman and not a girl, and longs for freedom and love. This adaptation ends not with the capture of hidden Jews in the Secret Annex, but with the sisters in the Bergen-Belsen camp, and with their deaths.

Anne’s story dusted off for another splendid production5
This 2008 British 5-part miniseries of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK succeeds on so many levels. There is a primal reason why we need to hear this story time after time, and yet hope that we can somehow change the ending…

Anne Frank’s wartime diary gave a poignant face to the Holocaust, an event unparalled in the annals of human cruelty. Deborah Moggach (the writer of the Keira Knightley version of PRIDE & PREJUDICE) casts a fresh eye over the original material, stripping away any possible shred of melodrama to reveal even more raw human emotion than seen in other versions of the story.

And newcomer Ellie Kendrick is nothing short of a revelation as Anne. Looking eerily like the real Anne at times, Kendrick brings her vividly to life with all the angst, fear, rage and humour that the role requires. The rest of the cast follows suit. I was especially surprised by how good Iain Glen and Tamsin Greig were as Anne’s parents. There’s a heartbreaking scene between Anne and her father–missing from other versions of the story–which had me absolutely floored.

It seems that each version of the story brings us closer and closer to the essence of the real Anne. This latest version is refreshing and raw in it’s depiction of one of the most fascinating chapters in modern history.

Bonus features will likely include “Rutka: A Diary of the Holocaust” which introduces audiences to Rutka Laskier, a fourteen-year-old Holocaust victim whose own diary–written in the Polish ghetto of Bédzin–was only discovered and published in 2006. This 50-minute doco was part of the UK and Australian DVD releases.

Review
“I have seen the familar tale adapted at least twice for television, but never as expertly as The Diary of Anne Frank, wonderfully dramatized by the novelist Deborah Moggach, and quite beautifully acted, in particular by Ellie Kendrick in the title role, and by the ever more splendid Tamsin Greig as Anne’s mother, Edith. It is hugely heartening to begin a new year with a reminderthat the BBC can still make fantastic accessible drama.” –Brian Viner, The Independent
